pedestrian, passing.
i walked in my neighborhood today.
passing fellow pedestrians,
one foot in front of the other.
step by step.
street by street.
a constant motion,
steadfast in thought.
i looked to smile at my passersby—
but heads were down.
earbuds in.
hoods pulled tight,
faces hidden.
what happened
to the glances we used to share?
to hands that now cling to an iphone,
but once waved
as if another’s presence
was familiar.
